Our products for your tent canvas: cleaning and impregnation
Ultramar helps consumers clean and protect their boat cover, tent, convertible roof and other outdoor fabrics themselves. The maintenance products are easy to use and designed for home use — without specialist knowledge.
Your tent is exposed to the elements every single day. As a result, the tent canvas becomes dirty over time. Sand, bird droppings, resin and green deposits accumulate on the tent canvas. This is not a problem, because the material can withstand it.
It is however important that you maintain the tent properly at the end of a camping trip, as otherwise dirt will cause wear to the tent canvas, which could result in leaks. Clean and impregnate the canvas regularly and make your equipment water and dirt repellent, so that you can enjoy your tent for years to come.
You can avoid many common problems by maintaining and preventively treating your tent canvas. Leaks at the seams, rain streaks, weather stains and green deposits will be a thing of the past.
Done in 3 steps
Step 1
Clean your tent using Ultramar’s Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo
The Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo removes most normal dirt from your polyester or cotton tent.
● First of all, clean the tent canvas with lukewarm water and a soft brush. This will already remove some of the dirt.
● Apply Ultramar Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo to the wet tent and brush off the dirt thoroughly. You could use a plant sprayer and a firm, soft brush to do this.
● Leave the shampoo to soak in for approximately 20 minutes.
● Remove the shampoo and dirt using the brush and plenty of water.
● Rinse well.
● Allow the tent canvas to dry completely before impregnating or storing it.
Step 2
For tough dirt, use Ultramar’s Power Cleaner
The Power Cleaner removes ingrained and stubborn stains for cotton and polyester.
● Apply Ultramar's Power Cleaner to the dry tent canvas. Use a spray, plant sprayer or soft brush to apply. Rub in well.
● Leave to soak in for approximately 1 hour. Don't notice any change? Apply additional Power Cleaner and brush in again. Leave to soak in again. Repeat this as many times as required until the stains have disappeared.
● Remove the cleaning agent and dirt using the brush and plenty of water.
● Rinse well.
● Allow the tent canvas to dry completely before impregnating or storing it.
Step 3
Polyester tent: impregnate using Sprayhood & Tent Protector
The Sprayhood & Tent Protector impregnates the canvas, keeping the tent waterproof and repelling dirt.
● Make sure that the tent is clean and dry.
● Apply Ultramar's Sprayhood & Tent Protector generously and evenly. Make sure that the canvas is completely saturated. You could use a spray or plant sprayer, for example.
● Also treat the inside of the tent, where weather stains and mould can easily accumulate.
● Remove the impregnation agent from the plastic windows straight away if your tent has them. You could use a damp cloth to do this.
● Allow the tent canvas to dry thoroughly.
● Repeat the treatment if required, for example on the tent seams.

Always follow the step-by-step plan when cleaning your tent canvas. Each step and each cleaning agent targets a different type of pollution. Take the following steps in order to clean your tent canvas:
• Step 1: First of all, clean the tent with water and followed by the Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo immediately after.
• Step 2: Then clean the tent using the Power Cleaner stain remover.
• Step 3: Impregnate the canvas using the Sprayhood & Tent Protector or the Canvas & Cotton Protector.
How many litres do I need in order to clean and impregnate a cotton tent?
We recommend the following quantities for a normal level of pollution on a standard-sized bungalow tent with a standard-thickness tent canvas.
• 1 x 2,5 litres Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo
• 1 x 1 litre Power Cleaner
• 2 x 5 litres Canvas & Cotton Protector
How many litres do I need in order to clean and impregnate my awning?
We recommend the following quantities for a normal level of pollution on a standard-sized awning with a polyester canvas:
