Collection: Clean and Waterproof Convertible Top

Clean and Waterproof Your Convertible Top

Ultramar helps you safely clean and waterproof your convertible soft top. With our PFAS-free cleaners and waterproofing products, you can remove dirt, mould and stubborn stains while restoring the fabric’s water-repellent properties.

Convertible tops are exposed to rain, UV radiation, traffic pollution and organic contamination. Regular cleaning and reproofing prevents fading, mould growth and premature wear.

On this page, we guide you step by step through Ultramar’s proven 3-step maintenance system.

In three simple steps, your convertible top will be clean, protected and water-repellent again.

IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS

Step 1

Clean Your Convertible Top

Ultramar Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo removes everyday dirt and organic contamination from convertible soft tops.

Preparation

  • Rinse with lukewarm water.
  • Remove loose dirt with a soft brush.

Cleaning

  • Apply to wet fabric.
  • Gently brush in.
  • Leave for approx. 20 minutes.

Rinse

  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Allow to dry completely.

Step 2

Remove Stubborn Stains

Ultramar Power Cleaner removes ingrained dirt, mould and heavy stains.

  • Apply to dry fabric.
  • Work in gently with a soft brush.
  • Leave for about 1 hour.
  • Rinse thoroughly.

Step 3

Reproof and Waterproof the Fabric

After cleaning, it is essential to reproof your convertible top. Waterproofing restores the protective water-repellent layer and prevents moisture from penetrating the fabric.

  • Make sure the fabric is clean and completely dry.
  • Apply Sprayhood & Tent Protector evenly.
  • Saturate the fabric thoroughly.
  • Allow to dry completely before folding or driving in rain.

After treatment, water will bead and roll off the surface again.

Everything You Need in One Bundle

Ultramar works with a simple 3-step system: clean, treat stains (if necessary) and waterproof.

Our convertible care bundles combine the right products for a complete treatment and are often more cost-effective than buying separately.

With a bundle, you’ll have enough product for a full treatment — and usually some left for future maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I clean and waterproof my convertible top?

Generally once or twice per year, depending on use and weather exposure.

Can I use a pressure washer on my convertible roof?

No. High pressure can damage seams and fabric.

How do I know when my soft top needs reproofing?

If water no longer beads on the surface but soaks into the fabric.

Does waterproofing protect against mould?

It helps reduce moisture retention, lowering the risk of mould growth.

Can I fold the roof while it’s still damp?

No. Always allow it to dry completely to prevent mould and odour.

Is the waterproofing safe for car paint?

Yes, but remove overspray immediately from paint and glass.

Can I wash my convertible in a car wash?

Automatic car washes are not recommended for fabric roofs.

How do I know when my convertible top needs reproofing?

If water no longer beads on the surface but soaks into the fabric, it’s time to reproof. A properly waterproofed soft top repels water immediately and dries faster. If the fabric stays wet for a long time or darkens when it rains, the protective layer needs to be restored.

Can I waterproof my convertible top too often?

No, as long as the fabric is clean and completely dry before application. It is more important to prepare the surface properly than to worry about frequency. Always apply the product evenly and avoid oversaturation or buildup.
