Collection: Awning Cleaning & Waterproofing

Clean and Waterproof Your Awning

Ultramar helps you safely clean and waterproof your awning and other outdoor fabrics. With our PFAS-free cleaners and waterproofing products, you can remove dirt, green algae and stubborn stains while restoring the fabric’s water-repellent properties.

Awnings and shade sails are exposed to rain, UV radiation, bird droppings and air pollution. Regular cleaning and reproofing prevents mould growth, discolouration and premature fabric wear.

On this page, we guide you step by step through Ultramar’s proven 3-step maintenance system.

In three simple steps, your awning will be clean, protected and water-repellent again.

IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS

Step 1

Clean Your Awning

Ultramar Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo removes everyday dirt and organic contamination from awnings and outdoor fabrics.

Preparation

  • Rinse with lukewarm water.
  • Remove loose dirt with a soft brush.

Cleaning

  • Apply to wet fabric.
  • Gently brush in.
  • Leave for approx. 20 minutes.

Rinse

  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Allow to dry completely.

Step 2

Remove Stubborn Dirt and Algae

Ultramar Power Cleaner removes ingrained dirt, green algae and tough stains.

  • Apply to dry fabric.
  • Work in gently with a soft brush.
  • Leave for about 1 hour.
  • Rinse thoroughly.

Step 3

Reproof and Waterproof Your Awning

After cleaning, it is essential to reproof your awning. Waterproofing restores the protective water-repellent layer and prevents moisture from penetrating the fabric.

  • Make sure the fabric is clean and completely dry.
  • Apply evenly to the entire surface.
  • Saturate the fabric thoroughly.
  • Allow to dry completely before rolling up the awning.

After treatment, water will bead and roll off the fabric again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I clean and waterproof my awning?

Generally once or twice per year, depending on exposure and weather conditions.

No. High pressure can damage the fabric and seams.

How do I remove green algae from my awning?

Use Ultramar Power Cleaner to treat algae and organic contamination before rinsing thoroughly.

Do I need to waterproof my awning after cleaning?

Yes. Cleaning reduces the water-repellent coating, so reproofing is recommended.

How do I know when my awning needs reproofing?

If water no longer beads on the surface but soaks into the fabric.

Can I roll up my awning while it’s still damp?

No. Always allow it to dry completely to prevent mould growth.

Is the waterproofing safe for coated outdoor fabrics?

Yes, when applied according to the instructions.
