Impregnation agent for your cotton tent: Canvas & Cotton Protector

Protect your cotton tent canvas using Ultramar’s Canvas & Cotton Protector. This impregnation agent has been specially developed for cotton canvas. Cotton fibres retain moisture longer than a polyester tent, which makes your cotton tent more susceptible to mould, weather stains and leaks. Impregnated canvas is easier to keep clean because mould, algae and other dirt will not stick to the material as easily. Make your tent canvas dirt repellent and water repellent so that you can continue enjoying your tent for years to come!

We recommend cleaning and impregnating your cotton tent regularly – at least at the end of the camping season. Always impregnate your tent canvas after you have cleaned it. You should also impregnate the inside of the tent in order to protect it against mould.

If you clean and impregnate your equipment after the holiday, you will protect the canvas against mould, moisture and dirt during storage. Make sure that the tent is completely clean and dry before applying the impregnation agent.

You do not need to dilute this special impregnation agent.

    Impregnation agent instructions for use

    1. Make sure the fabric is clean and dry and put up your tent.
    2. Spray a generous amount of impregnation agent onto the dry tent canvas. Make sure you apply the impregnation agent evenly. You could use a plant sprayer or brush to do this.
    3. Also apply the impregnation agent to the inside of the tent canvas. If you impregnate the inside, mould and weather stains will not stick to the cotton fabric as easily.
    4. If you have an awning or tent with windows, remove the impregnation agent from the windows straight away using a damp cloth.
    5. Allow the tent canvas to dry thoroughly.

    Impregnation agent applications

You can use this impregnation agent for various types of cotton tent, including:

    • Trailer tent
    • Group tent
    • Pyramid tent
    • Teepee tent
    • Elevating roof
    • Bungalow tent

How many litres do I need in order to clean and impregnate a cotton tent?
We recommend the following quantities for a normal level of pollution on a standard-sized bungalow tent with a standard-thickness tent canvas.

    • 1 x 2,5 litres Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo
    • 1 x 1 litre Power Cleaner
    • 2 x 5 litres Canvas & Cotton Protector

A clean canvas in three steps

The Canvas & Cotton Protector can be used on its own. For optimum results, use the impregnation agent in combination with our canvas cleaner and stain remover for tents. The dirt on your canvas is never just one type of dirt. It is usually a combination of sand, mould, algae and mosses, insect and bird droppings, salt and resin, for example.

Sprayhood & Tent Shampoo can be used to remove most dirt. Remove any stubborn stains using the Power Cleaner. Then apply the Canvas & Cotton Protector to protect the canvas. Our three-step plan in a nutshell:

    1. First of all, use the canvas cleaner to remove most of the dirt.
    2. Then use the stain remover to get rid of any stubborn stains.
    3. Finish by using our impregnation agent for cotton to make the canvas waterproof and dirt repellent.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Canvas & Cotton Protector and the Sprayhood & Tent Protector?

They are both impregnation agents developed to treat specific types of fabric.
    ● The Canvas & Cotton Protector is specially developed for canvas with cotton fibres, such as a cotton tent.
    ● The Sprayhood & Tent Protector is specially developed for woven plastic or canvas that contains plastic, such as a polyester tent, boat cover or convertible roof.

Can the Canvas & Cotton Protector create white marks?

Yes, this can happen. In principle, these stains disappear by themselves, usually after a while. The white stains are caused by excess impregnating agent. The white component in this impregnating agent is needed to fill the rough structure of cotton.

Can you recommend an effective impregnation agent for cotton?

The Canvas & Cotton Protector has been specially developed for cotton tent canvas. It makes the canvas very watertight and provides extra protection against mould, dirt and green deposits.
